College Placement World History
Welcome to World History! This will be your first required history class. Studying history helps you understand things that are happening in the world today. My hope is that this class will stimulate your intellectual curiousity and interest in world events.
Flipping World History
You will want to keep an eye on this page as well as the assignment page and calendar. As the class progresses this year, more and more information will be posted on-line. My motto used to be "Kill trees for history", but I am hoping we will be able to actually save some by using the technology tools available to us.
Standards based grading
Students' grades are based on demonstrating understanding of the World History and Common Core Social Science Standards. This method uses a 4 point rubric (see file on the right), which can be converted to traditional letter grades. Since the goal is standards mastery, students can continually try to improve the grade throughout the year. For example, a student demonstrated a 2 on one of the standards at the beginning of the year. At the end of the year, that student completes work showing a 3 level understanding.
